Getting Even Origins

Getting Even Origins

As the author or the person who brought you Getting Even, this is really about Getting Even Origins. I love to write.  I’ve always loved to write. This page on Getting Even Origins is about my writing and everything that flows from it that has been inspired with my own challenges around homelessness.

Getting Even Origins

Where do I begin?

As a toddler, I remember old Cecil, a builder working on our house. He was a grizzled old guy and I took a magazine to him where I’d copied a few letters out of the page, into the white margin.  I held this triumph up for him to see.  His words remain with me to this day. He didn’t know he’d one day make it to the Getting Even origins page.

“That’s wonderful,” he said. “Now, if you learn to arrange those letters into words, people will be able to read them!”

Well, that did it!  I was hooked on words from that moment on.  Everything about Ray Jamieson the writer started that day, I’m sure.  All through school, I was an avid reader and a student of words and language.  I loved the challenge that an English test essay presented.  The more we did, the better I got and my writing became my way of expression.

Fast forward and only the location and date have changed.  All through my years on the farm, in my earth moving business, through my corporate and business life, through to creating training programs and seminars and delivering presentations at every level, there has always been this initial expression of writing it first.

What I found was that when I needed it, I would sit, with either a pen or keyboard and the words and the messages would come through me, ready to deliver.  Mostly, I didn’t know what would appear on the screen – it’s called Channeling – I am the first person who sees it.  Before it arrives, I have no idea what is coming. However, Getting Even Origins was here.

So it has been with my books.  To learn about Ray Jamieson and the Getting Even Origins, to read my writing, I guess it’s from an inner core, but I’m not fully conscious of all of the stories and material I bring through before it appears.  I just get to read it first.

At times, I have been writing and been horrified at what I see appear on the screen – the storyline has a terrible scene in it – people doing awful things to each other and I wonder how evil such as this could happen.  But we know it does.  I don’t know how it comes into my writing because I have not seen it before, but there it is, in meticulous, horrible detail.  It’s only afterwards, as the story unfolds further, that I see how it fits and it becomes apparent that it is an integral part of the story.  But it doesn’t get rid of the horror or whatever it was that it brought through.

The other part about my writing that you might find interesting is that if I was just writing an email, there would be the usual smattering of mistakes, typos and spelling or grammatical errors.  But not when I’m writing my stories.  They appear on screen, perfect as they are, no spellchecker needed.  No, I don’t understand that either, because it’s not how my regular writing happens for business or non-creative writing….

Getting Even Origins and my career

After the farming and earth moving businesses, there came my entry to the corporate world, into an era of immense upheaval for small business.  I landed in the unusual field of corporate rescue – retrieving businesses that were facing imminent failure and bankruptcy.  I’d already penned a few stories by this time but not published any.  The world of corporate rescue by definition involves working with businesses that have no money, so it’s not really an area where you’d expect to create a wealthy lifestyle.  However, I gathered a wealth of information and life experience, all material for my stories to come.

My business evolved from there into teaching people how not to get into trouble in businesses, through corporate training and the story about Ray Jamieson changed again.  I majored in soft skills, going deep into personal development and inner reflection, the ability to access ‘stuff’ from the deepest recesses of my mind, as well as helping other people to evolve and grow with their personal development.  Over time, my soft skills training overtook the corporate work and although my career did include financial planning and business consulting and coaching, writing has finally come to be the passion that now steers my life.

In there, ever the entrepreneur, I began other business and investment ventures and eventually took the big risk, relying on other people to play their part, only to find they talked a better game than they played. Getting Even origins began as after a particularly disastrous event and season, I found I was suddenly homeless. It happened quickly, and it made me realise how close we all can be to this situation – a couple of pay packets, a couple of mortgage payments and an unlucky event or two thrown in and suddenly, you might be where I was, looking at my furniture being loaded into a truck as I stood by, helpless to stop it. Suddenly, I was right back at the beginning again, starting over from nothing, with nothing but loads of real life experiences!

Yes, I still have business and life coaching clients and I love my work with them. I love seeing them evolve, grow and succeed beyond their wildest dreams.  I love sharing their successes with them and I love what I learn from them.  I love guiding them around where I made my mistakes, which i can do now, from expoerience.

And then I go home to write.

I now have three books published and the first Getting Even novel is mostly completed.  I plan three at least in this series, and a TV series to parallel it.

Why this topic?

A little more about Getting Even Origins.  Take it from me.  Anyone can become homeless.

I know, from personal experience.  In 2006, I had a beautiful home on the Gold Coast and a partner with different goals and that cost me everything.  Including the house.  It’s a terrible feeling having a locksmith arrive early in the morning, along with a removalist to pack everything loose into a truck, before taking it to a storage unit and locking it away.  That afternoon, I was looking for somewhere else to live – not my own house.  Homeless.  It can happen without warning.  Without mercy.

So this is personal, on behalf of all the other folks out there who are only a pay check or a missed mortgage payment away from being homeless too.

That’s why all proceeds from the initial promotion of Getting Even will go into a Not-For-Profit organisation called Getting Even. This Not-For-Profit has been established to receive the proceeds of all sales and any other income from the book, with the ultimate aim of assisting homeless and disadvantaged people and promoting this worthwhile cause globally.
